¡Hola! Let's learn how to talk about days, months, and seasons in Spanish!
In Spanish, we do not capitalize the days of the week or months. We only capitalize them if they start a sentence.
Let's look at the days of the week first. Many of them are named after space objects like the moon and planets! For example, lunes (Monday) sounds like the moon, and martes (Tuesday) sounds like Mars.
Now, let's learn the four seasons, called las estaciones (las ehs-tah-see-OH-nehs). We have el invierno (winter), la primavera (spring), el verano (summer), and el otoño (autumn).
✏️ Worked example
Imagine your birthday is in the fall, on a Thursday. How do you say "Thursday" and "autumn" in Spanish?
First, find the Spanish word for Thursday. Think of Thor's day or Jupiter. In Spanish, it is jueves (HWEH-behs).
Next, remember that we do not capitalize the 'j' in jueves unless it is at the start of a sentence.
Then, find the Spanish word for autumn. It is el otoño (el oh-TOH-nyoh). Remember the special ñ sound!
Finally, put them together: jueves (Thursday) and el otoño (autumn).
