¡Hola! Today we are going to learn about Spanish subject pronouns. These are handy words that replace a person's name!
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. In English, we use words like 'I', 'you', 'he', or 'she'. Spanish has them too!
To say 'I' in Spanish, we say 'yo' (yoh). To say 'you' to a friend, we say 'tú' (too). Let's see how 'yo' points to ourselves!
To say 'he', we use 'él' (ehl). To say 'she', we use 'ella' (EH-yah). Notice how 'él' has a written accent mark over the 'e'!
✏️ Worked example
Change the name 'Sofía' to a Spanish subject pronoun.
- First, look at the name. 'Sofía' is a girl's name.
- Next, think of the English pronoun we use for a girl. We use 'she'.
- Then, recall the Spanish word for 'she'. The word is 'ella' (EH-yah).
- Now, replace 'Sofía' with 'ella'. You did it!
