In Spanish, we ask about the weather by saying: ¿Qué tiempo hace? (How is the weather? - pronounced: keh tee-EHM-poh AH-seh). We use the word 'hace' (it makes) to describe most types of weather.
To say it is sunny, we say: Hace sol (It is sunny - pronounced: AH-seh sohl). The word 'sol' means sun, so we are literally saying 'it makes sun'!
To say it is windy, we say: Hace viento (It is windy - pronounced: AH-seh bee-EHN-toh). Just like the sun, we are saying 'it makes wind'!
✏️ Worked example
Imagine you look out the window and see trees bending in a strong breeze. Explain in your own words how to say 'it is windy' in Spanish, and write down the phrase.
First, remember that we use the verb 'hace' (it makes) for wind.
Next, think of the Spanish word for wind, which is 'viento' (bee-EHN-toh).
Put them together to get 'Hace viento' (It is windy).
Check your spelling and make sure 'viento' starts with a 'v', which sounds like a soft English 'b'.
