Why do some words start with 'la' and others with 'los' or 'el'? Spanish nouns have gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural). We must match our articles to our clothes!

- Identify the first clothing item: shirt. In Spanish, this word is 'camisa'.
- Check the gender of 'camisa'. It ends with 'a', which means it is feminine. It is also singular (just one shirt).
- Pick the singular feminine article for 'the', which is 'la'. Put them together to get 'la camisa'.
- Identify the second item: shoes. In Spanish, this word is 'zapatos'.
- Check the gender and number of 'zapatos'. It is masculine and plural (ends in 'os').
