In English, we say 'I am going to study' to talk about future plans. In Spanish, we do the exact same thing using three simple parts: the verb 'ir' (to go), the word 'a' (to), and an action word.
First, we must change the verb 'ir' (to go) to match the person doing the action. For example, 'yo voy' (I am going), 'tú vas' (you are going), or 'nosotros vamos' (we are going).
Next, we add the word 'a' (to) and then the infinitive, which is just the original, unchanged action verb. For example, 'estudiar' (to study) or 'comer' (to eat). Let us connect them together!
Translate this sentence into Spanish: 'We are going to study (estudiar)'.
- Step 1: Find the Spanish word for 'We'. That is 'nosotros' (noh-SOH-trohs).
- Step 2: Conjugate the verb 'ir' (to go) for 'we'. The correct form is 'vamos' (VAH-mohs).
- Step 3: Add the middle connector word, which is 'a' (ah).
