Terms of Service
Welcome to Studyfin. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Studyfin website, apps, and services ("Studyfin", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using Studyfin, you agree to these Terms. If you are using Studyfin on behalf of a child, you do so as their parent, guardian, or authorized school.
1. Accounts & eligibility
You must provide accurate information and keep your sign-in credentials secure. Children's accounts must be created or authorized by a parent, guardian, or school. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.
2. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse Studyfin — including attempting to disrupt the service, reverse-engineer it, scrape content, share another person's private information, harass tutors or staff, or use the platform for anything unlawful. Tutoring must take place inside Studyfin; soliciting students or tutors to move off-platform is not permitted.
3. AI-generated content disclaimer
Lessons, quizzes, explanations, and diagrams on Studyfin are generated by artificial intelligence (Google Gemini). We take accuracy seriously — AI quiz answers are independently re-checked and many questions (e.g. math) are produced by verified formulas — but AI can still make mistakes. Content is provided for educational purposes only and is not professional, medical, legal, or financial advice. Always apply your own judgment, and please report anything inaccurate via the in-app assistant or a support ticket.
4. Live tutoring marketplace
Studyfin operates a marketplace that connects families with independent tutors. Tutors are independent contractors, not employees of Studyfin. We facilitate matching, scheduling, video sessions, payments, and vetting, but we do not control and are not responsible for the conduct of tutors or students, and we do not guarantee any particular educational outcome.
Child-safety rule (under 13)
For any student under 13, a parent or guardian must be present and signed into the video session for it to begin and continue. This rule is enforced by our servers: a session will not start until the parent joins, and the room is closed if the parent leaves. By booking, parents agree to be present for these sessions.
Reviews & conduct
Families may rate and review tutors honestly. We may remove reviews that are abusive, fraudulent, or violate these Terms. Tutors must maintain valid, current credentials; an expired teaching license suspends a tutor's "Verified" status until renewed.
5. Payments, subscriptions & refunds
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
- Subscriptions (Family / Family Plus) renew automatically; cancel anytime before renewal. The 7-day free trial is not charged until day 8. Subscription refunds are pro-rated for the remainder of the billing cycle, and plan changes are prorated.
- Tutoring sessions are billed per session at booking and are separate from any subscription. The price includes the tutor's rate plus a platform service fee. Tutors receive 80% of their listed rate via Stripe Connect; Studyfin retains the remainder.
- The one-time $29 tutor verification fee covers credential review and a background check and is non-refundable once the check has been initiated.
- Schools may be billed by invoice or purchase order.
6. Background-check disclosure (tutors)
To protect students, tutor applicants must complete an automated background check conducted by our screening partner, Checkr, Inc., a consumer reporting agency. By applying to tutor, you authorize Studyfin to initiate a background check and consent to Checkr obtaining a consumer report about you.
- You will receive a separate invitation from the screening provider and must provide your consent and personal details (such as SSN and date of birth) directly to that provider. Studyfin does not collect, view, or store this sensitive information.
- Background checks are conducted in accordance with the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state and local laws. You have the right to dispute the accuracy of any information in your report and to request a copy of it.
- If a report may lead us to decline or remove a tutor, we will follow the FCRA adverse-action process, including providing the required notices and a copy of the report and a summary of your rights.
- Approval as a tutor is at Studyfin's discretion and also depends on valid, current teaching credentials.
7. Account suspension & enforcement
We keep a record of policy violations and enforce these Terms and our Code of Conduct fairly:
- Three-strike policy (tutors & parents): each violation is recorded and you are notified by email. The first two are warnings; the third results in automatic suspension — sign-in is disabled, and tutors are removed from the directory and cannot be booked. Serious violations may result in immediate suspension or removal without prior warnings.
- Children: a child's account is not suspended by these strikes. Instead, we notify the parent or guardian and may flag the account for their review; the parent decides what action to take.
- Linked accounts: if a parent/guardian account is suspended, the access of their linked children is paused for the duration of the suspension and restored upon reinstatement.
- Appeals: if you believe an action was taken in error, you may appeal by replying to the notice email or contacting support; we will review.
- We may also withhold payouts in cases of fraud and cooperate with law enforcement where required.
8. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
Studyfin is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Studyfin is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
9. Changes & contact
We may update these Terms from time to time; material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept them. Questions? Use the in-app assistant or open a support ticket.
