Getting organized & keeping track

Grade 3 · Study & Life Skills · Free lesson

Hi there! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Let us learn how to make a great research plan together!

When you do a school project, you need a plan. A research plan is like a map. It shows you what to search for and where to find it.

books

First, you need to write down your main question. Then, you think of good places to look for facts. An adult can help you choose safe websites and books.

Next, you must keep track of your facts. You can use a simple list or a chart. This helps you remember where each cool fact came from.

✏️ Worked example

Leo wants to do a research project about sea turtles. He needs to make a plan with his teacher to find and track his facts.

  1. Leo writes down his main question: 'How do sea turtles stay safe in the ocean?'
  2. He asks his teacher to help him find two safe websites about ocean life.
  3. Leo makes a chart with two columns. He labels them 'My Facts' and 'Where I Found It'.
  4. He reads the websites and writes down three facts in his new chart.
  5. Leo shows his finished chart to his teacher to make sure he tracked everything correctly.
