Goal-setting & growth mindset

Grade 3 · Study & Life Skills · Free lesson

Hi there! Today we will learn how to set goals and use courage to beat hard challenges.

When you design or build something, you will hit roadblocks. That is normal! A big goal helps you stay on track.

A growth mindset means you know your brain can grow. If you make a mistake, you do not give up. You try a new way.

My Brain Can Grow!

Courage and confidence are like muscles. You build them by trying hard things, even when you feel a little scared of failing.

Keep climbing to your goal!
✏️ Worked example

Leo wants to build a toy car out of cardboard. The wheels keep falling off. Let us walk through how Leo can solve this challenge using goal setting and courage.

  1. Leo sets a clear goal: 'I want to make my toy car roll three feet without losing its wheels.'
  2. Leo shows courage by not stopping when the wheels fall off the first time.
  3. Leo stays confident. He tells himself, 'I can learn how to fix this.'
  4. Leo looks at his design. He sees the tape is too weak. He decides to use glue instead.
  5. Leo tests his new design. The car rolls perfectly! He solved his challenge by staying calm and trying a new way.
