Hi there! I am Studyfin, your tutor. Let's learn how to tackle any test question calmly using a smart, step-by-step model!

When you face a tough test question, do not guess right away. Instead, use a structured problem-solving model to analyze the given information and find key clues.

First, analyze the question to separate what you know from what you need to find. Then, formulate a clear strategy, like drawing a picture or eliminating wrong answers.

1. ANALYZE Find Clues 2. PLAN Pick Strategy

Next, determine your solution by carrying out your plan. Finally, justify your answer and evaluate if your final choice makes logical sense.

3. DETERMINE THE SOLUTION 4. JUSTIFY & EVALUATE Does this answer make sense?
✏️ Worked example

A math test question asks: 'A school bus drives 15 miles per hour. How far does it travel in 3 hours?' Use our problem-solving model to find and justify the correct answer.

  1. Analyze: Identify the given information. The speed is 15 miles per hour. The time is 3 hours. We need to find the total distance.
  2. Formulate a plan: Distance equals speed multiplied by time. Our plan is to multiply 15 by 3.
  3. Determine the solution: Calculate 15 times 3. 15 + 15 + 15 = 45 miles.
  4. Justify and Evaluate: Check the reasonableness. If the bus goes 15 miles in one hour, it must go much further in three hours. 45 miles is a logical and correct answer.
