Goal-setting & growth mindset

Grade 4 · Study & Life Skills · Free lesson

Hi! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Today, we will learn how to set goals and use our inner strength to beat tough challenges!

When you design a project, you might run into a tough problem. A goal helps you know exactly what you want to make. Setting a clear goal keeps your mind focused so you do not get lost.

To reach your goal, you need personal character traits like courage and confidence. Courage means you try again even when you feel scared of making a mistake. Confidence means you believe in your own power to learn and grow.

Your Goal Courage!

When things do not work, do not give up! We call this resolving challenges independently. You do not need to wait for someone else to fix it; you can use your own tools and try a new way.

Fixing Problems Yourself
✏️ Worked example

Maya is building a cardboard toy car for her science class. When she tests it, the wheels do not spin. Let us watch how Maya solves this challenge using her inner strength and goals.

  1. First, Maya sets her main goal: 'I want my toy car to roll three feet.'
  2. Next, she stops and looks closely at the wheels to find the problem. This is called analyzing the challenge.
  3. She notices the glue is holding the wheels too tight against the cardboard body.
  4. Maya uses courage. She does not throw the car away. Instead, she gently pulls the wheels apart to make space.
  5. She uses confidence. She believes she can fix it, so she tries rolling the car again.
  6. The car rolls! Maya resolved her design challenge all by herself.
