Hi there! I am Studyfin, your learning helper. Today, we will learn how to take notes that help you study and learn!
When you read or listen, you get a lot of information. You cannot write down every single word. Instead, you must find and gather only the most important facts.

To show you understand your notes, you can group them into categories. We can use a main idea and then list the details underneath it.
We also use symbols to make our notes fast to read. A star can mean a big idea, and a question mark can mean something you need to ask your teacher about.
Let us practice. Read this short text: 'Bees are amazing helpers. They carry pollen from flower to flower. This helps new plants grow. Bees also make sweet honey.' How do we gather the main facts and show we understand them in our notes?
- Find the main topic. The text is all about 'Bees'. Write 'Bees' at the top.
- Look for the first important detail. The text says bees carry pollen to help plants grow. Write down: 'Carry pollen -> helps plants grow.'
- Look for the next important detail. The text says they make honey. Write down: 'Make sweet honey.'
- Group these notes together under the main heading 'Bees' to show you understand how they relate.
- Review your final notes. They are short, clear, and easy to read!
