In Chinese, the most common way to say hello is 'Nǐ hǎo'. It is made of two words: 'Nǐ' means 'you', and 'hǎo' means 'good'. So, when you greet someone, you are wishing them well!
The word 'Nǐ' has a dipping tone that goes down and then up. The word 'hǎo' also has this same dipping tone. Watch how the tones dip and rise like a little roller coaster!
When we put two dipping tones together, the first one changes! It becomes a rising tone that goes straight up. This makes it much easier and smoother to say 'Nǐ hǎo' out loud.
