Hi! I am Studyfin, your friendly learning buddy. Today, we will learn how to write Chinese characters like a pro!
Chinese characters are called Hànzì. They are not made of letters. Instead, they are made of beautiful lines called strokes.

Every stroke has a special direction. One main rule is to write from left to right. Let us look at how we write the character for 'one' and 'two'!
Another big rule is to write from top to bottom. When strokes cross, we usually write the horizontal line first, then the vertical line.
✏️ Worked example
Let us practice writing the character for 'three' in Chinese, which is 三 (sān). How do we use our rules to write it correctly?
- Find the three horizontal lines that make up the character 三.
- Start with the top line. Write it from left to right.
- Move down to the middle line. Write this shorter line from left to right.
- Finally, move to the bottom line. Write this longest line from left to right.
- Look at your beautiful character! You wrote it from top to bottom, and left to right.
