The French alphabet uses the same letters as English. But some of them sound very different. For example, the letter A sounds like 'ah'!
Let us look at the letter A. In French, we open our mouth and say 'ah' like we are at the doctor. The word for airplane is 'avion', and it starts with this 'ah' sound.
Now let us try the letter H. In French, the letter H is called 'ash'. But here is a secret: when you read a French word, the H is silent! You do not make any sound for it.

Let us practice spelling the French word 'chat' (which means cat) using French letter sounds! The word is spelled C - H - A - T.
First, look at the letter C. In the French alphabet, we say this letter as 'say'.
Next is the letter H. We learned this one! We say 'ash'.
Then comes the letter A. We open wide and say 'ah'.
Last is the letter T. In French, we pronounce this letter as 'tay'.
Put them all together to spell it out loud: 'say' - 'ash' - 'ah' - 'tay'!
