Bonjour! Today we will learn how to name our family members in French.
In French, we use different words for family members. Let us start with the parents. Father is 'le père' and mother is 'la mère'.
Notice the small words 'le' and 'la'. We use 'le' for male family members. We use 'la' for female family members.
Now let us look at brother and sister. Brother is 'le frère'. Sister is 'la sœur'. They love to play together!

Imagine you want to introduce your sister in French. How do you choose the right words step by step?
- First, think of the English word you want to translate. The word is 'sister'.
- Next, remember the French word for sister. The word is 'sœur'.
- Then, think about if a sister is male or female. A sister is female.
- Now, pick the correct little word for female. We use 'la' for female family members.
- Finally, put the two words together. You get 'la sœur'!
