The French alphabet uses the same 26 letters as English. However, many letters make brand new sounds!
Look at the vowel 'E'. In English, we say 'ee', but in French, it sounds like 'uh'.
Now compare 'E' and 'I'. While 'E' makes an 'uh' sound, the French letter 'I' sounds like 'ee' in English!

How do you pronounce the French word 'L-I-T' (bed)?
- Step 1: Look at the first letter 'L'. It sounds just like the English 'L'.
- Step 2: Look at the middle letter 'I'. In French, 'I' sounds like 'ee'.
- Step 3: Look at the last letter 'T'. In French, final consonants like 'T' are usually silent!
- Step 4: Put it together: L + 'ee' + (silent T) = 'Lee'.
