In French, we use the phrase 'les couleurs' to talk about colors. Just like in English, colors help us describe the world around us. Let's start with three basic colors: red (rouge), yellow (jaune), and blue (bleu).
In French, most color words go AFTER the noun they describe. For example, instead of saying 'the blue balloon,' French speakers say 'the balloon blue' (le ballon bleu). Let's watch how the word order swaps when we translate!
French colors must also match the gender of the noun. If a noun is feminine, we usually add an 'e' to the end of the color word. For example, 'vert' (green) becomes 'verte' when describing a feminine noun like 'la pomme' (the apple).
Translate 'the green book' into French. Note that 'book' in French is masculine: 'le livre'.
