Bonjour! Today, we will learn how to talk about days, months, and seasons in French. It is as easy as un, deux, trois!
In French, we do not capitalize the days of the week or the months. We start the week with Monday, which is 'lundi'.
Let's look at the days of the week! They often end in 'di'. For example, Monday is 'lundi', Tuesday is 'mardi', and Wednesday is 'mercredi'.
Seasons in French are called 'les saisons'. Summer is 'l'été', autumn is 'l'automne', winter is 'l'hiver', and spring is 'le printemps'.
✏️ Worked example
Imagine you want to tell a French friend that your favorite day is Saturday, and your favorite season is spring. How do you write this in French?
- Find the French word for Saturday. Saturday is 'samedi'. Remember, do not use a capital letter!
- Find the French word for spring. Spring is 'le printemps'.
- Put them into simple sentences. To say 'It is Saturday', we write 'C'est samedi'.
- To say 'It is spring', we write 'C'est le printemps'. Now you can share your favorite day and season in French!
