Days, months & seasons

Grade 7 · French · Free lesson

Bonjour! Let's learn how to talk about days, months, and seasons in French.

In French, days of the week and months do not start with a capital letter unless they begin a sentence. Notice how lundi (Monday) and janvier (January) stay lowercase!

The days of the week are lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, and dimanche. The week starts on Monday (lundi) in France, not Sunday!

French seasons use articles: le printemps (spring), l'été (summer), l'automne (autumn), and l'hiver (winter). Notice how the vowel at the start changes 'le' to 'l''.
