In French, we use words called articles before body parts. We use 'la' for feminine words like 'la tête' (the head) and 'le' for masculine words like 'le nez' (the nose).

Now let us look at the upper body. 'Le bras' is your arm, and 'la main' is your hand. When we talk about plural parts like both hands, we use 'les' to make 'les mains'.
Imagine you are describing yourself in French. You want to say: 'I have a head, a nose, and two hands.' How do you translate this step-by-step using the correct French words and genders?
- Identify the French word for head. 'Head' is 'tête'. Since it is feminine, we use 'une tête' for 'a head'.
- Identify the French word for nose. 'Nose' is 'nez'. Since it is masculine, we use 'un nez' for 'a nose'.
- Identify the French word for hands. 'Hand' is 'main'. For plural hands, we use 'mains'. 'Two hands' translates to 'deux mains'.
