To build this tense, you only need two parts. First, grab the verb 'aller' (to go) and conjugate it to match your subject. Second, add the action verb in its original, unchanged form, which we call the infinitive.
Let us analyze a concrete case to see this formula in action. Imagine you want to say 'We are going to watch a movie.' First, find the 'we' form of aller, which is 'allons'. Next, find the unchanged verb for 'to watch', which is 'regarder'. Put them together to get 'Nous allons regarder'.
Translate the sentence 'They (masculine) are going to eat' into French using the near future tense.
- Identify the subject pronoun for 'They' (masculine), which is 'Ils'.
- Find the present tense conjugation of the verb 'aller' for 'Ils'. The correct form is 'vont'.
- Identify the infinitive form of the action verb 'to eat', which is 'manger'.
- Combine the conjugated form of 'aller' with the infinitive action verb: 'Ils vont manger'.
- Check your final sentence structure to ensure the conjugated verb directly precedes the infinitive.
