Hi there! I am Studyfin, your friendly tutor. Today, we will learn how to sign the numbers 1 to 5 in American Sign Language!
In American Sign Language, or ASL, we use our hands to talk. Signing numbers is super fun and easy to learn. Let's start with how we hold our hand.
When we count from 1 to 5 in ASL, we face our palm toward our chest. This is different from how some people count. Your palm faces you, not the other person!
Let's look at the numbers. For 1, we raise just our index finger. For 2, we raise our index and middle fingers. Remember to keep your palm facing you!
For the number 3, we do something special. We do not use our ring finger. Instead, we stick out our thumb, index finger, and middle finger!
Let's practice signing the number 4. How do we show the number 4 using ASL rules?
- First, raise your hand up so you are ready to sign.
- Next, turn your hand so your palm faces your own face.
- Fold your thumb down across your palm so it is tucked in.
- Finally, stand your other four fingers straight up in the air.
- Look at your hand. You are now signing the number 4 in ASL!
