American Sign Language, or ASL, is a beautiful visual language. People use their hands, faces, and bodies to talk. It is used by many Deaf people in North America.
Let us learn the sign for 'Thank You'. To make this sign, you touch your fingers to your chin. Then, you move your hand forward and down toward the other person.
Now let us look at the sign for 'Please'. You place your flat right hand on the center of your chest. Then, you draw a circle with your hand a few times.
✏️ Worked example
Imagine your friend gives you a delicious apple. Walk through the steps to show them you are thankful using American Sign Language.
- First, bring your dominant hand up to your face.
- Next, touch the tips of your fingers gently to your chin.
- Make sure your palm is facing in toward your face.
- Then, move your hand forward and down in a smooth arc toward your friend.
- As you move your hand, flatten it out so your palm faces up.
- Smile to show your friend you really appreciate the yummy treat!
