Deaf people use visual ways to get attention. Instead of calling out a name, they might gently wave a hand in the person's line of sight or tap them lightly on the shoulder.

Imagine you want to talk to your Deaf classmate, Sam. Sam is sitting across the classroom reading a book. How do you get Sam's attention politely?
Analyze the situation: Sam is looking down at a book and cannot hear you call their name.
Think about visual rules: You need to enter Sam's line of sight to get their attention.
Choose the best action: Do not throw things or shout. Instead, walk over to Sam's side.
Apply the gesture: Once you are nearby, wave your hand gently in Sam's field of vision, or tap Sam lightly on the shoulder.
Wait for eye contact: Once Sam looks up and smiles, you can start signing!
